And so a new industry is born

Sketch-a-Move was created by Anab Jain and Louise Klinker. While it is a bit old, it’s still pretty amazing. In essence, you draw a shape on the car and it will follow the course. I am not sure how it works…
Adobe wants to remind you that a lot of crappy slate touchscreens are out there that will run flash. We use Flash on TWBE (now) but, its one major flaw is hard to ignore, flash is a hog. When we have flash videos and slideshows on our site, it makes everything else run slow. We are doing our best to improve your experience here, so hopefully in the future we’ll be without flash!

Sometimes wi-fi just won’t cut it, so Zinnet’s forthcoming Brite-View LinkE BV-210C powerline ethernet adapters help out with the heavy lifting of uninterrupted streaming content like HD video or internet radio. Maybe you don’t have ethernet wired throughout your house – only newer homes might – so you can create a non-wireless network with these. Datawise, they can handle up to 200 mbps. This new one includes a bridge with four ports – you could hook up an Xbox, a Roku box, even an older computer, and something else like a Blu-ray player or AppleTV without running cables through areas where wires aren’t desired, or where a wireless signal receives heavy interference. Since so many devices now have either Netflix or Amazon video streaming, this gadget could be quite handy.
There are existing versions with single ports on each end, and reviews for their products seem pretty strong overall.
You probably know that Apple set the date for the iPad release to be April 3rd. I also heard presales start March 13. I guess all the delay rumors have been false? Check out the new ad that aired during the Oscars. In a somewhat unrelated story, Hulu loses Comedy Central shows…. could all the networks be worried about what you will be doing with your iPad?
Here’s one from the wayback machine! Apples Emate. We were trying to recall this “green clamshell thing” Apple came out with a while ago and could not remember it. Boy ,they have come a long way! The one thing that is interesting according to the wiki page on the Emate is that the device is described as a “low-cost Laptop” (running the Newton operating system. Could this be the first Netbook (minus the net)? Those Apple folks were always ahead of their time.
Sony revealed its competitor to the Micro Four Thirds format. Interesting and very Sony, flat slab with a big lens. It seems the compact dslr’s are the new shiny object this year. They are actually referred to as “EVIL” (Electronic Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens). Make sure to read the full story at Wired, At the end of the Wired post they begin to mention Nikon and Canon, and how they may offer access to all their lens on one of this EVIL cameras. I can only hope!
I have been spending some time trying to figure out how to integrate my speakers into my home. Then I stumbled upon this little gem. Hand-crafted in New Zealand, Q Speakers are powered by Class D amplifiers for less energy waste, and they look amazing. An object instead of a eyesore.

The Pumaphone might not be immediately available, but as smart phones go, the idea of including a solar cell charging panel on the back of the device is perfect. Considering the heavy battery usage in the average day by most Blackberry, iPhone, and Android devices, it would be great to simply be able to lay the phone face down and collect some much needed juice from the sun. Out at the park? At your desk or in a car without any cables? This would be ideal. Via uncrate.

The Eye-Fi Pro X2 Wireless SDHC memory card gives your camera the ability to wirelessly transfer photos to either your computer or directly to photo sharing services like flickr or picasa, or even to social networks. Doesn’t matter if your camera doesn’t have the capability – the card has wireless built in. It’s also got built in geotagging of photo locations.
The new LaCie CurrenKey stores your data in an easily grabbable form, and the USB connector is hidden away. I tend to throw all my stuff into a bag, rarely making use of small pockets or the lanyards that come with USB flash dongles. From Lacie: “With the universal Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, the cross-platform LaCie CurrenKey can be used with all PC or Mac computers. Hi-Speed USB 2.0 not only offers universal compatibility and cross-platform convenience, but features hot-pluggable connection and high-speed transfer rates…”
Looks pretty sturdy, metal die-cast construction – Designed by 5.5 Designers firm.
There are three versions: 16GB in gold, 8GB in silver, and 4GB in bronze.

The Atlona AT-HDView VGA to HDMI upscaler/converter is an easy way to get an existing or slightly outdated computer hooked up to a nice new HD television, up to full 1080p resolution. Chances are low that most people are going to run out and get a brand new computer to leave hooked up to the tv all the time. The beauty of this box is that it grabs a video signal up to 1900×1200 resolution and mixes in the audio signal into one HDMI output: The VGA, USB, and 1/8″ audio cables all connect to the computer’s ports, and then one HDMI port on the converter box can be connected to your television. You could run all of these separately, but in this case the box itself handles scaling and conversion of video and audio without having to mess with your display settings. And yes, it includes a 6 foot HDMI cable (not shown).

A must have for anyone who wants to sketch out an iPhone app. It could also be a really cool bookmark in your moleskine notebook. Either way, $17.95 makes you look cool. The iPhone stencil kit is available from UI Stencils.
P.S. They also make one for websites….
This Incase perforated snap case for the iphone 3g and 3gs is by far (in our opinion) the best looking case they have created.
Apple’s iPad launch seems like months ago. Quietly, Google has released its idea of a tablet.
A posting on Google’s Chromium blog reveals that the company is considering a touch-sensitive tablet computer. I wonder if it will be open source and clunky?
Do you enjoy staring at clocks all day? Here’s a pretty one. The MultiClock iPhone app has a few different time visualizations. Not only does this look cool on a docked iPhone or iPod Touch, but I can picture it looking pretty snazzy in fullscreen mode on a docked Apple iPad. Time keeps on ticking, ticking, ticking…
It’s here. The Apple iPad, a cross between an iPhone a giant iPod Touch and a very media-capable fun media browsing computer, all in a tablet form factor. It’s does everything a bunch of stuff you’d expect: solid web browsing, email via on screen keyboard, photo browsing, iTunes music playback and purchasing (movies, tv shows, podcasts, all apps, games etc), and scales up existing iPhone apps or runs them in small windows. 9.7 inch diagonal touchscreen, speaker, microphone, dock connector, wireless 802.11n wifi, bluetooth, fancy multi-finger gestures, pop-up onscreen keyboard – the whole enchilada.
Updated: pricing starts at $499 for 16gb of memory, then $599 for 32gb, and $699 for 64gb. Those three versions have wifi only (no 3g wireless service) and will be available around March 27, 2010.
If you want roaming with 3g service, add on $130 to each price level for theintegrated 3g hardware and wait until the end of April. Then add on another $30 per month (prepaid, no contract – turn it on and off as you please) for 3g service via AT&T. You also gain free access to their wifi hotspots (i.e. Starbucks etc.). Also available is a lower data plan for $15 per month that limits you to 250 mb of transfer – but browsing, music and video streaming would kill that in a few days.
We know what you’ll really do with it.
Hands-on review below.
The Aerotel GeoSKeeper GPS/Dick Tracy cellphone wrist device is the outcome of actually now living IN the future… but only if the future is in Finland, and you keep losing people. Then this is your thing. Would be neat with a more global rollout.
