The new Olympus E-LP1 camera is the latest in that company’s offerings in the micro four-thirds arena. What’s that? Think exchangeable lenses plus a DSLR sized sensor, minus the mirror and prism commonly found in an SLR, all in a relatively small camera.

The full name for the camera is pretty long: “Olympus PEN E-PL1 12.3MP Live MOS Micro Four Thirds Interchangeable Lens Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens.” Here are the general specs:

• 12.3-megapixel interchangeable lens digital camera; Micro Four Thirds format
• Includes 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 digital zoom lens; features built-in flash
• 2.7-inch HyperCrystal LCD with Live View function; Continuous Autofocus (C-AF) tracking system
• Capture HD video with high-quality audio; new “Direct Button” for easy recording

The Pentax Optio W90 12.1 MP Waterproof Digital Camera is another interesting ruggedized camera that’s about to be released to the wild. Having spent all day Saturday in the snow with TEXAS REASON, I wish I had this one on hand to capture the beautiful moments.

The Eye-Fi Pro X2 Wireless SDHC memory card gives your camera the ability to wirelessly transfer photos to either your computer or directly to photo sharing services like flickr or picasa, or even to social networks. Doesn’t matter if your camera doesn’t have the capability – the card has wireless built in. It’s also got built in geotagging of photo locations.

I was gifted an Eye-Fi card when they first came out about two years ago and was super impressed by the ease of setup and how little I needed to actually sit down at my computer, plug my camera in, and import photos. It worked almost too well, even uploading shots that I didn’t want to keep. At the time, the card was limited to JPG only – but Eye-Fi has done some major upgrades and come out with the new “Pro X2″ model.

The basics:

8GB storage, supports RAW.

Wireless: Upload straight to social networks, or only to your computer, or both. When you upload to social networks, it even lets you hold off on publishing so that you can go in and approve photos before letting others see them. This took a moment to get used to the first time – I thought that every unedited or bad shot was going to get posted.

Automatic geotagging using wifi location services – while not perfect, it will at least triangulate your location based on known Wi-Fi networks and IP addresses.

At first glance I thought it was just kinda ugly and hyping up the ‘rugged’ thing. Giving it a harder look, I think I like it – obviously a tie-in to the Casio’s  G-Shock watch “endurance-minded features” without exactly aping the name.

Over the last couple of days, I came across this camera a few times and held back from writing about it – at first glance I thought it was just kinda ugly and hyping up the ‘rugged’ thing. Giving it a harder look, I’ve grown to like it – obviously a tie-in to the Casio’s  G-Shock watch “endurance-minded features” without exactly aping the name. It looks like it could still slide into a pocket nicely, and when you miss that pocket, it’ll survive the fall. I’d love to see a true endurance test when it is released.

The economy is getting better: wildly expensive at $14,250US, and the economy is a sinking ship: probably wildly stealable. The Hermes treatment is given to the Leica M7. Specs are the same as the existing version – film based, quick locking variable aperture priority, amazing lens options. Calfskin leather in either orange or etoupe (if they’re going to say  “orange”, why not just say “brown”…) wrapped over a silver chrome body. Limited to 100 cameras per color. The kit drops in December 2009 in a linen and silk box, includes a matching leather strap, the Leica SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH wide-angle lens, a matching classic lens flare hood, and the LEICAVIT M rapid film winder.

The Fake Keychain Car Key Lock Security Spy Camera

According to Wired writer Mark McClusky, the new Canon S90 is all that and more.

Two big features he points out are the glass:

“It’s got a 28-105mm equivalent lens, a nice wide angle at the short end, perfect for large group shots and landscapes.”

and the speed of the lens which goes down to f2, that is extremely impressive. I also want to point out it looks nice and compact, easy for the front pocket.

I forgot to mention the control ring that surrounds the lens — much like a focus ring on a DSLR, but programmable so you can set it to control any function you want from the camera.

Urban Outfitters has partnered with The Impossible Project to help restart and reinvent instant film photography. The Impossible Project bought all the machinery and equipment at Polaroid’s Dutch factory where the instant films were made. Urban Outfitters is helping them bring it back for 2010.

This is really cool. I think about 8 years ago I was at a conference where I saw a projector in a cellphone, it was a prototype but, nevertheless a really cool concept. Check out Nikon’s Coolpix S1000pj, a camera with a projector.  Here’s the lowdown from Dpreview…

We all know the iPhone 3gs is all about video. Now. we have gonzo gadgets that will make taking videos easier. At first I thought this was a new game controller, at least now you will not drop the thing when you’re trying to make a short film.
