The Eye-Fi Pro X2 Wireless SDHC memory card gives your camera the ability to wirelessly transfer photos to either your computer or directly to photo sharing services like flickr or picasa, or even to social networks. Doesn’t matter if your camera doesn’t have the capability – the card has wireless built in. It’s also got built in geotagging of photo locations.

I was gifted an Eye-Fi card when they first came out about two years ago and was super impressed by the ease of setup and how little I needed to actually sit down at my computer, plug my camera in, and import photos. It worked almost too well, even uploading shots that I didn’t want to keep. At the time, the card was limited to JPG only – but Eye-Fi has done some major upgrades and come out with the new “Pro X2″ model.

The basics:

8GB storage, supports RAW.

Wireless: Upload straight to social networks, or only to your computer, or both. When you upload to social networks, it even lets you hold off on publishing so that you can go in and approve photos before letting others see them. This took a moment to get used to the first time – I thought that every unedited or bad shot was going to get posted.

Automatic geotagging using wifi location services – while not perfect, it will at least triangulate your location based on known Wi-Fi networks and IP addresses.

From Eye-Fi:

“Eye-Fi Pro X2: the most powerful memory card ever.

Class 6 read & write speeds for high performance shooting. The power of 802.11n wireless uploads from your camera to your computer & favorite sharing site. And that’s just the beginning.

Features

Performance. Store up to 4,000 photos or 3h of video with 8GB SDHC capacity supercharged with class 6 read & write speeds. Ideal for high megapixel cameras.

Wireless. Upload photos & videos from your camera through your Wi-Fi network with unprecedented wireless performance thanks to built-in 802.11n technology.

Ad Hoc. Send photos & videos to your laptop anywhere your camera takes you

RAW power. Wirelessly upload RAW photos to any folder on your computer to streamline your workflow.

Endless memory. Always running out of space? With Endless Memory Mode, your Eye-Fi card will automatically free up space once your photos and videos have been safely delivered.

HotSpot Access. Upload on-the-go through one of 10,000 HotSpots, including McDonald’s, airports, hotels and more. (1 year included, $14.99/year renewal option thereafter)

Geotagging. Lifetime, automatic Geotagging service helps you organize and share photos. View, search and share your latest trips on a map.

Automatic back-up. Wirelessly upload photos and videos to folders of your choice on your computer, or even directly into iPhoto for Macs.

Compatible. No need to buy a new camera.

Effortless sharing. Wirelessly send your JPEG photos and videos to a popular website. Including Flickr, Facebook, Picasa, MobileMe, YouTube and more.

Pick your pics. You can select which photos and videos upload from your camera.

Over the last couple of days, I came across this camera a few times and held back from writing about it – at first glance I thought it was just kinda ugly and hyping up the ‘rugged’ thing. Giving it a harder look, I’ve grown to like it – obviously a tie-in to the Casio’s G-Shock watch “endurance-minded features” without exactly aping the name. It looks like it could still slide into a pocket nicely, and when you miss that pocket, it’ll survive the fall. I’d love to see a true endurance test when it is released.
The specs:

-Shock resistant elements inside and outside. Stainless steel outer casing, resin protective ring on the lens. Supposedly fine for seven foot drops.
-Water resistant to 10 feet for 60 continuous minutes, even under direct spray.
-Weather resistant down to 14°F
-12.1 Megapixels, with interval shooting of photos or movies (fun)

The economy is getting better: wildly expensive at $14,250US, and the economy is a sinking ship: probably wildly stealable. The Hermes treatment is given to the Leica M7. Specs are the same as the existing version – film based, quick locking variable aperture priority, amazing lens options. Calfskin leather in either orange or etoupe (if they’re going to say “orange”, why not just say “brown”…) wrapped over a silver chrome body. Limited to 100 cameras per color. The kit drops in December 2009 in a linen and silk box, includes a matching leather strap, the Leica SUMMILUX-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH wide-angle lens, a matching classic lens flare hood, and the LEICAVIT M rapid film winder.

According to Wired writer Mark McClusky, the new Canon S90 is all that and more.

According to Wired writer Mark McClusky, the new Canon S90 is all that and more.

and the speed of the lens which goes down to f2, that is extremely impressive. I also want to point out it looks nice and compact, easy for the front pocket.

For the full read go here

I forgot to mention the control ring that surrounds the lens — much like a focus ring on a DSLR, but programmable so you can set it to control any function you want from the camera.

10 mp will cost you $430.00

This is really cool. I think about 8 years ago I was at a conference where I saw a projector in a cellphone, it was a prototype but, nevertheless a really cool concept. Check out Nikon’s Coolpix S1000pj, a camera with a projector. Here’s the lowdown from Dpreview…

“The ground-breaking COOLPIX S1000pj is expected to shake up the compact digital camera market as people begin to see the benefits of sharing and viewing photos and videos using personal projection.”

“The COOLPIX S1000pj doesn’t just pack a punch with its projector – the compact camera delivers high resolution images with 12.1 effective megapixels and a 2.7” wide viewing-angle TFT LCD monitor. With a high ISO 6400 sensitivity and using Nikon’s exclusive image processing concept, EXPEED, the camera offers the kind of high quality images you expect from Nikon. This is all wrapped up in a sleek aluminium silver or anodized black casing that contains a wide-angle 5x zoom NIKKOR lens.”

For more detailed review check out Dpreview
