Cleon Peterson’s The Occupation

Cleon Peterson has a new show, The Occupation, opening this Saturday at New Image Art Gallery in Los Angeles.  One of our favorite painters working right now, Cleon’s work is vibrant and violent.

luxury vending machines

No Doritos here. U*tique will dispense gadgets, skincare and hair-care items and high-end make-up. Created by Mara Segal(no relation to Steven) a former consultant to a multitude of Luxury brands. They plan to role out the machines in Luxury Boutique hotels, but it will debut in Los Angeles’ Studio, a specialty boutique in Fred Segal. I think if they sold beer and pretzels, I would buy them everyday just to use the machine! The machine will stay true to its roots and sell candy—not any ordinary candy—we’re talking designer candy from Dylan’s Candy.

what your drink says about you

As it is now the beginning of a new work week in the new year, you are reflecting on all of your accomplishments in 2008, and planning out your goals in 2009. Have you ever wondered what your drink says about you?  For example,

Screwdriver – The Julius of cocktails. Also know as the Vod-orange-ka (thank you Michael Scott), the screwdriver says two things about you–one–that your drinking has not progressed since sophomore year of high school (which you clearly missed out on or are just now taking part in) and two–that you will be the target of every 45 year old guy in the bar that does more work in the gym than he does in the office.

Who drinks: High school/College women with an affinity to pretending they’re drunker than they are attractive.”

According to a ex-LA bartender observations you can decide if you need to change your drink for 2009, or it may help guide you through a night of drinking. Read more about what your drinks says about you at Banned in Hollywood.

“these predicaments” we missed

If you’re one of our LA readers and missed the David Stoupakis show at Corey Helford Gallery that opened on the 13th. Not to worry, when your bored over the holidays sneak out and check it out.

“These Predicaments” David Stoupakis at Corey Helford Gallery. On View December 13 until December 31, 2008

“Corey Helford Gallery is proud to present “These Predicaments”, a solo exhibition of new works by pop surrealist David Stoupakis. For his second solo exhibition at the Gallery, Stoupakis parlays his talent for the supernatural and macabre into dramatic narratives that reveal symbolic turning points and unexpected dilemmas. A delicate balance of childhood innocence and haunting imagery, the series of oil-on-panel paintings and graphite drawings recounts grim fairytales of the decadent and demure. Marking a new direction for the artist, Stoupakis employs a brighter color palette than before and will unveil his largest piece to date for the exhibition…”

hipster strip mall

Space15Twenty is an Urban Outfitters upscale downtown shopping strip.  Recently it has welcomed Alife and just about everything else hip and trendy.  “It was created so that Urban Outfitters could collaborate with those creative brands they found interesting and inspiring.”

Here we have some images of the new store. Via MashKulture
