Top of the Pops

The cover formula worked

From Wikipedia:

“were a series of budget compilation cover albums of current chart hits recorded by anonymous session singers and musicians released on the Hallmark record label. They had initially reached the charts but were later disallowed due to a change in the criteria for entering the charts. These albums continued to be produced until the early 1980s, when the advent of compilation albums featuring the original versions of hits, such as the Now That’s What I Call Music series, led to a steep decline in their popularity.”

David Ellis’ Heap of Trash Sound Sculpture

I meant to shoot a video of this at our buddy Joseph‘s booth but, I was pretty hungover when the idea happened.  This sculpture is bananas and if I remember correctly, Charles Saatchi copped it.

mike-davis-heidi-jlg

Opening this Saturday at Joshua Liner Gallery are two solo shows featuring new wave surrealism by Mike Davis (Stories From the Other Side of the Bridge) and Heidi Taileffer (An Uncanny Lineup of Serendipitous Connections).  We’ve been into Mike Davis’ work for ages and are pretty amazed by what we are seeing from Taileffer.  that being said, the show has mad promise.  Check it out for yourself.

death comes in the form of a blog

grimreaper

NY Mag helps to feed the flames.

“Last fall, the How’s My Dealing? blog (which rates gallerists’ treatment of their artists according to anonymous informants) began a gallery “DeathWatch” thread—and dealers are on edge over its retailing of unsubstantiated rumors.”

I checked out the site and it’s pretty interesting. My only criticism is it’s really hard to read and navigate. You can decide for yourself. Check out the NYmag article and check out How’s my Dealing.

Containers At Anonymous Gallery tonight

I was unable to make it to the Street installation of Containers but, Greg Lamarche has posted some flicks of his part on his blog.  I really dig how he was able to translate found material into his own style.  The opening of the Gallery installation at Anonymous is tonight from 6 to 9 pm, I suggest you stop by.
